PROFESSOR JOHN C KILWEIN

Professor John C Kilwein is an Associate Professor of Political Science at West Virginia University. Obtained PhD from Ohio State University in 1992. Professor Kilwein's research focuses on the politics of legal services and comparative analysis of sub-national courts of appeals. In terms of legal aid, Professor Kilwein has examined the contentious politics that surround the provision of free civil aid to the poor in the United States. In addition, he examines those substantive public policy areas most commonly addressed in legal services litigation, for example, landlord and tenant law, prisoner rights law, and domestic relations law. Professor Kilwein's legal services work has been included in Lawyering on the Left: Causes, Politics, and Professional Responsibility (Oxford, 1997) and The Transformation of Legal Aid: Comparative and Historical Studies (Oxford, 1999).
