Roger has been Policy and Legal Director at the Legal Services Commission since 1998. Amongst other things he is in responsible for the Commission's contracting strategy and the piloting of alternative methods of delivery of legal services. His team includes the Legal Services Research Centre. He first came to the Legal Aid Board (the predecessor of the Legal Services Commission) as its Legal Director in 1995. He had experience of working in Law Centres and voluntary advice agencies before qualifying as a solicitor in 1984. He worked in a legal aid practice for several years before moving to the London Borough of Brent in 1987, where he specialised in child protection and social services work. He then headed Brent's in-house legal department as Borough Solicitor from 1992 to 1995.
